Your weekly mission: farmer's carry
If you couldn’t tell by now, carrying heavy shit and carrying more heavy shit is really important to your strength and your ability to resist decay. We get lazy in our comfortable lives and forget one of the most important movement patterns is also one of the most simple.
This is the third movement in the heavy carry series and it should be all you need, for now.
Please meet the farmer’s carry.
SPEX:
Measure out a distance between 50-100 steps
Choose two heavy weights
Pick up the heavy weights
GO!
Goal is 10+ sets in 30 minutes or less
This is a speed and strength exercise, and the goal is to bring your track times down over time. Simple as that. If the weight is heavy it will last you for years.
The weight you see in the video I made myself. It’s actually pretty simple, I just set a bag of concrete in each bucket and added double bike hooks as handles. They are about 75 pounds of odd weight each. You can do the same and it will be more than enough. When I first started doing this track, each lap took me 40+ seconds. Now at my very best I’m doing 18-19 seconds per lap and that’s pretty much a slow run, which is not ideal for this exercise actually. They are getting too light for me, so I have to go bigger. This has taken me about 2 years.
Btw dumbbells in a gym don’t count. Lift under the sun with odd weight and do hard things.
